Implementing Kettlebells into your PT business
You've attended the course, you've recovered from DOMS and now you're ready to get cracking with kettlebells!
Only thing that might be holding you back, and this is from previous course feedback, is where do you start?
Here's a few tips and tactics that we have used successfully that should help you get started.
Skip the cardio, do swings instead. Rather than get your client to pound away for twenty minutes on a treadmill, get them performing the five minute swing session. To recap, its thirty seconds of swings, thirty seconds rest. They'll "love" it.
Run an introductory workshop. This works like magic in a fitness chain environment. We'll talk about the business side of things in a later blog post, but right now, organise a workshop and get people on kettlebells.
Replace dumbbells with kettlebells for traditional exercises. You really can use kettlebells for any exercise. They have their limits - for example, no one is going to set a squat or deadlift record with them, but anything from rows, bench press, lunges, step ups, you can progress all these exercises simply by swapping in kettlebells. You can even curl them :)
There are plenty of tactics for introducing kettlebells into your training mix, the next thing to do is work out what works best for you and your clients.
Anything else work for you? Add a comment to this blog entry; we'd love to hear about it and share the knowledge.
Next blog post will be on how you can use kettlebells to attract more clients!

Kettlebell Session Ideas
My clients are loving this one...
Get a pack of playing cards and 2 kettlebells of different weight (I've been using an 8 and 12 with my female clients). Set the stopwatch for 30 mins and the client picks a card from the pack. If its a red card they use the 12kg KB and if its a black card they use the 8Kg KB and perform the number of swings as per the number on the card, i.e. 9 of spades = 9 swings with the 8Kg, king of hearts = 13 swings with the 12Kg etc...
You can use other exercises too such as squat press (just half the number on the card and perform that number of reps on each side, when an odd number is picked, do the extra rep on the weaker side to improve muscular imbalances)
The 30 mins flies by and the beauty of it is, is that at the end of the session when your client is well and truly cooked, they can't blame you, coz it was them that picked their cards!! :)
If anyone else has any ideas for KB workouts I'd love to hear them...
